Background and Education
- The eldest daughter of immigrant Italians, Rosa Prestia Cascardo, was born in Toronto, Canada but was raised in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, The American Dream was what Rosa’s elementary school educated parents sought for their daughter. As union workers in construction and the garment industry, Rosa’s parents struggled and saved to send their daughter not only to college, but to law school. Rosa’s family always believed that there were only two roads to economic security in America- upper level educational and real estate ownership and investment. Rosa’s dream was that of her parents' and lives following their wisdom : Be the best that you can be without compromise or excuse. America offers every opportunity. It is up to the individual to act upon it. Rosa, like her parents, was driven and determined. She graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University cum laude in 1984 and then from NYU Law School in 1987. Upon completion of law school, Rosa was offered a position in a prominent NYC law firm. After 10 years of practice in NYC firms, Rosa established her own firm and has been a solo practitioner for 28 years.
